Who is Joan Smalls?
There I was, paging through the latest issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine and discovered this BEAUTY. I didn't know anything about Joan Smalls until yesterday, and I may have seen her in fashion shows but didn't really pay much attention to her. Don't ask me why ! So I decided to do a little background check on her.
Joan is the 2011 spokes model for the skincare and cosmetics lineup of Estee Lauder. The global advertising campaigns for the skincare and cosmetics major featuring Smalls will start appearing in the media in May 2011, as it has been reported. She became the third model to be signed by Estee Lauder this year, after Liu Wen and Constance Jablonski (pictured below) were picked up earlier this year.
This pretty young lady has worked with the top fashion designers like Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton and also had her brushes with brands like Gucci and Prada. She became noticed in the global fashion scene after appearing in the Givenchy fall/winter 2010 Couture show of Ricardo Tisci. She has also done photography sessions for the coveted Vogue Magazine.

This is what Designer and Brand manager of Marion and Lindie had to say:
Q: How did you become involved in clothing design and manufacturing?
A: I attended fashion-design school in Croatia, where I fascinated by street fashion. I was also introduced to Japanese design, which led to an interest in folding, draping, and pleating. I completed my studies in South Africa and have worked here for over seven years.
Q: Why has Marion and Lindie been so successful?
A: We have always stayed true to our core values and objectives. Marion and Lindie has evolved with the times, providing a contemporary wardrobe for the fashionable working woman.
Q: How does your team stay abreast of international trends?
A: We focus on being aware of trends without copying them, preferring to create our own interpretation of the latest styles.
Q: How would you describe your target customer?
A: She is somebody who is confident, knows what she wants and is not afraid to try new things.
Q: What is your greatest work-related compliment?
A: That people wear my clothes for many seasons. It's all about creating investment pieces-
gone are the days of disposable fashion.
Q: Who are the celebrities you dress?
A: We do not focus solely on celebrity dressing but rather aim our clothes at influential, fashion-forward women, including editors and stylists.
Q: How do you feel about collaborating with Edgars?
A: It's an international trend for leading stores to house designer brands and we are looking forward to sharing our range with Edgars customers.
Q: What are the hottest trends this winter?
A: Colour and layering. A waterfall cardigan Marion and Lindie's winter2011 range is must.
